Landowner Guide to Forestry in NC

If you would like to learn more about the North Carolina Tree Farm Program,
please contact one of the following individuals.

Chris Brown (800) 231-7723 or cbrown@ncforestry.org

Al Weller (252) 948-2744 or alweller@nctreefarm.org

Landowners who would like to become enrolled in the program should download the application on this site and mail it in to Chris Brown.

Landowners who have a forest management plan for their property should indicate that on their application. To be certified in the American Tree Farm System and a member of the North Carolina Tree Farm Program, a landonwer must be visited by an official Tree Farm Inspector. The Inspector will look over the forest managment plan and complete the proper paperwork.

Landowners who do not have a forest managment plan should contact their local county ranger with the Division of Forest Resources to arrange for a free management plan. Landowners can also hire a consulting or private forester to write a forest management plan.

Forest management plans provide direction for the landowner and make them eligible for several cost-share programs.
