Landowner Guide to Forestry in NC

If you would like to learn more about the North Carolina Tree Farm Program,
please contact Leslie McCormick at (919) 917-8646 or
nctreefarm@gmail.com.

Landowners who would like to become enrolled in the program should download the application and mail it in to the North Carolina Tree Farm office.

Landowners who have a forest management plan for their property should indicate that on their application. To be certified in the American Tree Farm System and a member of the North Carolina Tree Farm Program, a landonwer must be visited by an official Tree Farm Inspector. The Inspector will look over the forest managment plan and complete the proper paperwork.

Landowners who do not have a forest managment plan should contact their local county ranger with the Division of Forest Resources to arrange for a free management plan. Landowners can also hire a consulting or private forester to write a forest management plan.

Forest management plans provide direction for the landowner and make them eligible for several cost-share programs.
