Harvesting

ATFS Standard 8, Indicator 8.2.1
Harvest, utilization, removal and other management activities shall be conducted in compliance with the landowner’s objectives and to maintain the potential of the property to produce forest products and other benefits sustainably.

A properly planned and conducted harvest of your woodlands yields many benefits. In addition to providing income, tree harvesting enhances forest health and appearance, improves productivity, wildlife habitat and recreational access, and increases property values and preserves water quality.

HARVEST TYPES

The type of harvest used depends on a wide range of variables including the landowner’s objectives, water resources, wildlife habitat, soils, slope, markets and desired species.

SELLING TIMBER

When selling timber, it’s important to understand what you have, what markets are available in your area, the tax implications of a timber sale and the benefits of using a consulting forester.
