SUMMARY:Carolina Bay Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join a park ranger for a hike through the bay forest at Jones Lake State Park and “discover” why this environment is unique.  Discussion on the hike will include the flora and fauna of the forest\, and why Carolina Bays are important.  Participants should meet at the Visitor Center at 10:00 am for this program. Please bring bug spray\, water\, and hiking shoes.  This event is free of charge and is open to the general public.  Contact the park office at (910) 588-4550 with any questions.

SUMMARY:Winter Plant ID Hike
DESCRIPTION:Come join Rick Stoner on a winter hike adventure to identify common plant species during the cold winter season. Even in the winter there are many plants with leaves by which we can identify them\, but we can also identify trees and plants by bark\, winter twigs\, and various growth characteristics. On our Winter Walk In The Woods we’ll learn to identify a number of trees and plants as well as discuss many interesting facts about them.  This will be a 2 mile hike. All participants must be prepared for cold temperatures and a strenuous hike. Bring food and water.

Birch syrup? Hickory syrup? Sycamore? Fuhgeddaboutit! Join Ranger Wade Engels as he leads a guided hike where southern syrups reign supreme. Learn the process of making your own syrups at home\, from choosing the right trees all the way through bottling.
