SUMMARY:Project Learning Tree: Nature of Fire Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join N.C. Forest Service staff as they facilitate a two-day exploration through the Nature of Fire activity collection. Participants will assess successional stages following disturbance in ecosystems\, examine how fire is being used to restore historical ecosystems\, investigate the fire triangle and fire movement\, explore carbon outputs from wildland fires and how these relationships affect climate\, and observe the effects of fire at the workshop site. \nRegister by January 31. DESCRIPTION:Snakes are commonly feared and misunderstood\, leading to many misconceptions about these creatures. However\, with a little bit of knowledge\, you can begin to see how truly amazing these animals are and learn how to interact with them safely. Join us this month as we discuss the various snake species found in our area\, their behaviors\, myths and misconceptions about venomous snakes\, and even a meet and greet with a live snake! \nOur guest speaker is Grover Barfield\, Director of the Carolinas Reptile Rescue and Education Center (CRREC)\, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about the need to conserve the reptiles of North Carolina. CRREC rescues\, rehabilitates\, and releases nuisance and injured reptiles mainly in Gaston\, NC\, and surrounding counties. Since 2003\, CRREC has provided educational programs on snakes of the Carolinas to schools\, civic organizations\, Scout troops\, museums\, local parks\, state parks\, and other government and non-government organizations and agencies.
