SUMMARY:Wild Mushroom Certification
DESCRIPTION:Wild Mushroom Safety & Identification Certification students who successfully complete this two-day class will be eligible for a 5-year permit enabling them to forage and sell wild mushrooms. The mushroom foraging permit meets the criteria required by the health department in North Carolina\, South Carolina\, Georgia\, Virginia\, New York\, and New Jersey. Stesha Warren of Eliana’s Garden\, LLC has over 20 years foraging experience and is the instructor for this class\, teaching the renowned course developed by Mushroom Mountain\, LLC\, a mushroom cultivation and research facility located in Easley\, SC. \nThis two day class is held at Rockingham Community College in Wentworth\, NC. Bishopric Building Room 108. We will spend a great deal of time taking a in depth look into each species approved by NC Dept of Health. As time allows we will also spend time in the beautiful forests and trails located on RCC campus identifying wild mushrooms. \nStudents should come prepared to take notes. Please also come prepared to be in the forest with attire appropriate for the weather\, bug spray\, identification key book\, harvest knife\, and basket or paper bag. \n  \n**This class qualifies for criteria III and criteria IV credit for the NC Environmental Education Certification program. DESCRIPTION:The Hunter Education Program of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission provides free hunter education courses throughout the year in every county.  More than a firearm safety course\, instruction includes ethics and responsibility\, conservation and wildlife management\, wildlife identification\, survival and first aid\, specialty hunting and tree stand safety. \nThere are no minimum age requirements\, however\, classes are taught at a sixth grade level and tests must be completed without assistance. Courses are a minimum of 6 hours\, taught by wildlife officers\, hunter education specialists and certified volunteer instructors\, and certification is accepted in every state and province in North America. \nDue to hunter education\, hunting accidents have decreased by over 50% during the last twenty years making hunting one of the safest recreational activities. \nHunter Education Courses are offered at different locations throughout the month. DESCRIPTION:This workshop will dive into how we find a sense of place within our communities\, and how trees play a role in our community character. Greensboro-specific examples and case-studies will be presented. This workshop is ideal for educators working with students in grades 6-12. All workshop participants will receive the Places We Live secondary module. These materials meet standards for 6-8th grade social studies\, 8th grade science\, Biology\, Earth/Environmental Science\, Civics & Economics\, and 21st Century Geography. SUMMARY:Hunter Education Course
DESCRIPTION:The Hunter Education Program of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission provides free hunter education courses throughout the year in every county.  More than a firearm safety course\, instruction includes ethics and responsibility\, conservation and wildlife management\, wildlife identification\, survival and first aid\, specialty hunting and tree stand safety. \nThere are no minimum age requirements\, however\, classes are taught at a sixth grade level and tests must be completed without assistance. Courses are a minimum of 6 hours\, taught by wildlife officers\, hunter education specialists and certified volunteer instructors\, and certification is accepted in every state and province in North America. \nDue to hunter education\, hunting accidents have decreased by over 50% during the last twenty years making hunting one of the safest recreational activities. \nHunter Education Courses are offered at different locations throughout the month.
