SUMMARY:N.C. Tree Farm Program Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the N.C. Tree Farm Program’s 2026 Annual Meeting on May 16 at Bayfields in White Oak\, N.C. The event will include a field tour focused on wetland and longleaf pine restoration\, creation of bobwhite quail habitat\, prescribed burning and Carolina Bays. The program will also include presentation of volunteer and Tree Farmer awards. \nBayfields is a 4\,000-acre Tree Farm that supports sustainable timber management\, recreational hunting\, pine straw production and habitat enhancement for rare and non-rare plant and animal species. Located in Bladen County\, Bayfields has ecologically significant longleaf pine and wetland habitats within a larger landscape of natural forest\, pocosin and managed timber. The property contributes to a network of federal\, state and private conservation lands in northern Bladen County with a 1\,770-acre conservation easement donated to The Nature Conservancy in 2007. \nThe current family owners have refocused management efforts toward habitat conservation and restoration. They are restoring upland old field loblolly pine and slash pine plantations back to longleaf pine stands that more closely approximate the structure and composition of the natural longleaf pine stands that once occupied the sites.

SUMMARY:Japanese Stiltgrass Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Japanese stiltgrass (Microstegium vimineum) is widely regarded as one of the most problematic invasive plants in the Eastern United States\, yet its unique ecological traits also make it a particularly intriguing species. This session explores the invasion history\, biology\, and ecology of Japanese stiltgrass\, with an emphasis on how these characteristics influence its spread and persistence. By building a clearer understanding of how\, where\, and why this species thrives\, participants will gain valuable insight into effective—and in some cases selective—approaches to management and decision-making. \nWho is this for?\n\n\nConservation volunteer educators\nGreen industry professionals\nMaster Gardeners\nIndividuals interested in learning about invasive species\n\n\nWhat will you learn?\n\n\nThe origin and invasion history of Japanese stiltgrass in the Eastern United States\nKey biological and ecological traits that make stiltgrass so successful\nThe growth patterns and habitat preferences that influence its spread\nInsights into when\, where\, and whether management is truly necessary\n\n\nRegistration is required to receive the link to access the webinar.
