SUMMARY:Invasive grasses in the southeastern United States
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will discuss a variety of invasive grasses throughout the southeastern United States. Invasive grasses rapidly invade disturbed areas\, including pastures\, fallow fields\, forests\, and highway and powerline rights-of-way. Infestations can impact the diversity of native species\, reduce wildlife habitat\, and disrupt important ecosystem functions. Seeds are typically wind-dispersed\, but the plant can spread vegetatively through rhizomes (roots); these rhizomes can be spread to new places on vehicles and equipment. Seeds of many invasive grasses can remain viable in the soil for years. As such\, control of invasive grasses is difficult\, time-consuming\, and expensive\, involving a combination of mechanical and chemical treatments. \n\n\nAdvance registration is NOT available. You may join this virtual event 15 to 30 minutes before its scheduled start time by going to this page. At that time\, a ‘JOIN’ button will be available on this page that will allow you to join this virtual event hosted. SUMMARY:Watching Out for the Little Ones: Conserving Southern Salamanders Within Working Forests
DESCRIPTION:This webinar aims to educate landowners\, loggers\, foresters and other natural resource professionals about the conservation value of endemic salamanders\, threats to them and opportunities to promote management practices that positively contribute to amphibian habitat in general (e.g. leaving scattered down woody debris -not piles\, limiting large canopy gaps\, and following state BMPs). Two endemic species that will be discussed are the patch-nosed and Cheoah bald salamander.
