GYPSY MOTH

The gypsy moth was introduced to the United States from Europe by an amateur entomologist who wished to establish a silkworm industry in North America. Escaped caterpillars have spread from Boston and arrived in North Carolina in 1982. Current regulated, or quarantined areas, in North Carolina include all of Currituck and part of Dare counties.
